An ever increasing need for bandwidth

Global consumption of bandwidth is projected to continue growing exponentially over the coming five years. Growth is particularly strong in Data Center applications, both within and between data centers, and in Mobile networks. Optical technology is a prerequisite for bandwidth growth, in all networks and in all market segments. Smartoptics provides innovative optical networking solutions and optical transceivers and accessories for the new era of open networking. The optical solutions developed by Smartoptics are typically used to provide capacity between Data Centers or to backhaul capacity from various access systems in an operator network.  The optical transceivers are ubiquitous and used everywhere where there are routers, switches or other optical systems.

A market in need for a challenger

The past three years have seen a dramatic consolidation among optical systems manufacturers. Several mid-size vendors, such as Transmode Systems, BTI, Cyan, and MRV have been acquired by larger system houses. Traditionally, these mid-sizes vendors have successfully served alternative operators and enterprise customers with products focused on mid-range applications in terms of capacity and reach. The consolidation has therefore created a gap in the market. With a new innovative systems platform and a strong brand among our customers, Smartoptics accepts the challenge to fill this gap.

In growth mode

In late 2016, a new management team was appointed. A revamped business plan laid out a new strategic direction, containing both a device and a solutions business. The first products coming out of this effort were released during 2017 and since then a steady stream of innovative products have been launched and business has grown significantly.

Track record to date

Smartoptics has already passed several of the milestones that were set out by the management in the new business plan. Our solutions have already been delivered to customers on three continents, demonstrating a successful go-to-market model. Smartoptics has a long business relationship with several major solutions providers such as Brocade, Cisco, HP, DELL and Hitachi Data Systems. In total, we have more than 100 sales partners around the world providing us with a global reach.
